Art

At Staplegrove Church School, we believe that Art and Design is an integral part of a child’s education. It provides them with opportunities to develop a range of skills in which they can express and share their creativity and learn about a wide spectrum of art disciplines and cultural heritage. Art contributes to a child’s personal creative development, independence, judgement and self-reflection, whilst developing a natural sense of wonder and curiosity for the world around them. We teach art because it provides children with opportunities to:

  • Use a range of media and materials: drawing, painting, print making, textiles and sculpture.
  • Reflect upon and evaluate both the work of famous artists and our own artwork.
  • Take risks and experiment, reflecting on why different techniques are successful for different projects.
  • Value creativity and the wide meaning of the term ‘art’.
  • Be given opportunities to innovate, including in response to different stimulus.

The Staplegrove child will have developed a solid knowledge and understanding of the formal elements of art and design. We want children to have experienced a breadth of art and design, multiculturally and historically and have a wealth of art knowledge and skills to draw upon.
